Welcome to HBC’s AWANA ministry. For 2009-10, our first club meeting will be on Wednesday, September 16. Every Wednesday during the school year, at 7:00 PM, children and teens from age 3 thru 14 (9th grade) fill our church’s fellowship and educational facilities, eagerly anticipating the evening’s activities.

Our AWANA ministry, beginning its 13th year, trains youth to become Approved Workmen who Are Not Ashamed, as we reach boys and girls for Christ and Train Them to Serve Him (from the AWANA pledge).

Last year we introduced a program for 7th and 8th graders - called Trek. This year, due to the popularity of Trek, we are expanding to include Journey, to minister to 9th graders as well. We’ll give these teens an opportunity to grow in their daily Christian walk, surrounded by Bible study designed to encourage questions and open discussion.

Every meeting, clubbers (children participating in the program) work during Verse Time to recite the Bible verses that they have memorized throughout the week. They work through verse books and get awards for each section of the books that they complete. These awards are placed on the clubbers' uniforms and proudly displayed.

Game Time brings exciting and zany challenges as the clubbers play the unique four-team AWANA games on the AWANA game square. The Clubbers truly enjoy the competition. They also love to see their leaders participate, and sometimes (often) even make good-natured fools of themselves.

During Council Time, the clubbers are challenged from God’s Word through a number of different means – skits, missionary stories, special missionary speakers, and object lessons. Many clubbers have made meaningful, lifechanging decisions in our council time.

The AWANA ministry is divided into three clubs and one program:
• Cubbies – Ages 3-4 (2 years pre-K)
• Sparks – Grades K-2
• Truth & Training (T&T) – Grades 3-6
• Trek – Grades 7-8
• Journey – 9th Grade

Each club has its own theme, club shirt, and unique set of Bible study materials.

We are thankful for the many dedicated leaders that have volunteered to help make this ministry a blessing to so many young people at Heritage Baptist Church.

Parents are always encouraged to stick around during club time, if they want to sit in with their child to better understand our program. Here is the schedule of the AWANA events for this year. Hope to see you on Wednesdays.
